You definitely have a lot of unnecessary programs on your computer.

Consider uninstalling AVG and replacing it with Microsoft Security Essentials.

Uninstall all AOL software.

Do you use Roxio software? It adds a lot of startup entries and services and can massively slow down a system. If you don't use it, uninstall it.

What Google software do you have installed on your computer?

Do you still Internet Explorer? if so it's version 7 which is no longer secure and its slower than version 8 and way slower than Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.

You also have several updaters and other useless apps running on startup.

When you are uninstalling programs, are you going to Add & Remove Programs in the Control Panel or some other method? Several programs still have entries for services but do not appear to exist anymore. Are there still AOL and Roxio entries listed there? If they are but refuse to uninstall there are 3rd party utilities to uninstall them.

The first program is to remove the CA suite. What program does that pertain to?

I ran the AVG Remover even though I removed it earlier. It scrolled thru a DOS box for about 2 seconds and that was it. It did not ask me to reboot.

It's related to CA Antivirus which it seems you had at some point.


Go to Start -> Run and type: SERVICES.MSC then press OK or ENTER.

Once you get the Services.msc console up on the screen, find these services and set their Startup type to Disabled by doubleclick on them to get their properties.

Under the "System" section post any errors that show after doing a reboot. You can copy and paste each error.

That bloated startup load definitely needs to be trimmed down, and some HiJackThis log entries need to be fixed, but let's see first what needs to be uninstalled or updated or added or replaced.

Start HiJackThis.

Click on the "Open The Misc Tools Section" button.

Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button.

Click on the "Save List" button.

Save the "uninstall_list.txt" file somewhere.

It'll then open in Notepad.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the entire file here.
