I know this is a duplicate thread. I read through this thread (http://forums.techguy.org/all-other-...d-adaware.html), and while following all the instructions located here, I'm still faced with an ad-aware listing in the program list that only has change/repair options. However I have disabled services for specific things as per these instructions, and I have had a significant increase in boot-up speed after disabling a few of those auto-start-ups.
System specs as per my profile.

I know it wasn't specified in the other thread I mentioned, maybe this doesn't happen in all cases; but I was running ad-aware quite fine now for 3-4yrs, but the latest update froze up the computer. It claimed to have installed successfully, then after re-starting by it's prompt, the new boot took about 5 minutes or so to load 80% of the shortcut thumbnails on my desktop, and all of them were unresponsive, as was anything on the taskbar or using ctrl+alt+del to pull up task manager, eventually the screen went black to that command with a few minutes delay, and stayed that way, so I turned it of via power button (held down) and next time I booted I acted quickly to open google-chrome and past the above thread URL in and follow the steps to disable ad-aware's auto-start-up, then restarted again, to find it's still holding it's ground, I'm here now.

You're amazing.

1st time, a little worrying however: I clicked "change", it of course launched the lavasoft install wizard with the uninstall option, clicking on it caused the metre to show half way through, produce an administrator privileges pop-up, then clicking "yes" on that crashed the computer, bringing the blue screen with white text to the effect of "windows is recovering from a fatal error"...

2nd time it loaded up, program still in the programs list, I also discovered I was having network troubles when I tried to get back to this thread to make a reply to you. I forget in exactly what fashion, but somehow the computer told me that the network drivers were faulty or had been damaged or something. Luckily I was at a mate's place at the time, I had a look at the hardware list for my computer, downloaded a fairly recent realtech driver for this model, uninstalled the current driver, installed it again from the download via USB (presumably the same driver that was already running), I get the Internet connection back. I go back to the programs list and "change" >> "uninstall" ad-aware again, this time working without negative side-affects, restart my computer, loads up now free of corruption.

Solved. Thanks for that advice.
