Solved: Is Adobe flash player update safe?
The other day when I booted up, already on my desk top was an invitation to update Adobe Flashplayer. I started to do the update but when asked to download a file which had the standard warning about needing to trust the source I was then told I may need to de activate my AV.
For this reason I declined the update as I was not comfortable to download a file 'allegedly' from flashplayer with no AV back up.
Am I being over protective or was there a threat?
Thanks

If the popup said that the publisher was adobe systems (a publisher recognised by Microsoft) and not a warning about an unkown publisher then it should be fine. I havent had it tell me to deactivate my A/V before, what A/V software are you using? It could be possible that flash is trying to add a firewall excemption to download or to allow automatic updates

If you've got your flash set to alert you to updates then you will get that screen and It does say that you "may" have to disable your anti-virus software but I've never had to do that.

However, if you're not sure, just go directly to the Adobe Flash download site and get the latest version there.

You're best not to wait as the update patches known vulnerabilities that leave you open to malicious exploits.
