JV16 power tools
I use to have the free version of JV16 power tools but now I have a new pc and no longer have the link to the free version. I came across a trial version but of course I want the free one. Does anyone know where I can download the free version? Does anyone have the link to this? Thanks

The link given by johncorley (no offense, John) is for v1.1.0.162. Here is a link for the last free version (v1.3.0.196) before they went from freeware to shareware. I've no idea what the difference is, but presumably newer is better

seems like there's a date trigger in the last free version
strange seeing as how the author distributed it as freeware not a dateware version

datecracker provides a workaround

open date cracker
- use the 'add' button to add 'jvpowertools' (without quotes)
- enter a date before jan 01, 2004 in the simulated run date field, spell it out all the way, ie: November 21, 2003
- use the browse feature in the field at the bottom (...) to locate the jv .exe, click so it shows up in the filed

when those 3 fields are filled out
then click on 'Run' to run the jvpowertools software

you don't open powertools directly, it goes through datecracker and opens

works for me

edit: apparently its build 196 that has the time flag
here's a thread about it, including a link to the previous freeware version 195

I went to the link provided by jbcalg and then downloaded jv16PT v1.3.0.195 from the link found in one of the posts there. It goes directly to a download, so i was unable to get a URL for it. Tried copying the link and get "cannot find page".

Anyway, it works! The 195 build doesn't have the time bomb that disables v1.3.0.196 on 1/1/2004. I also noticed MajorGeeks took the download off their site. I just deleted the old jv16 folder and clicked on the setup file for the new. jv16 has no Registry entries so deleting the folder works just fine.

http://down.hengshui.com/download.asp?downid=1&id=726 is the link
and it's to a chinese language site, so kinda hard (for me at least) to pinpoint the exact download link

btw: as always, virus and spyware scan all files downloaded/installed to be safe
- the kind folks at BBR ran it through the paces and it comes up clean but you don't want to start the NY wrong

jbcalg

Thanks from here, too. 195 works fine!

I'm glad I grabbed it last night (late). I checked today and the page took forever to load. I gave up. I wonder if it's overloaded, or just a coincidence.

For me, I really would not mind shelling out the money for jv16. It's been far better than the others I've used, which have sometimes caused problems. I've also been using 4.3 for a while, prior, for free too, so I guess paying the piper would be in order.

But the way the latest "freeware" was distributed with no mention for an expiration date, well that's a bit weak. Especially to the people who ran it a short time before it expired, and realized they needed their back-up.

jbcalg, thanks again!
