Hi Constant,
Could you give some more info about it, where you use this, how you noticed it, and what version of AOL you have. I have aol but I've never heard of this 'sp' feature, are you seeing this in your 'startup' programs / msconfig?

Yeah i can.

I am running America Online 9.0 Optimized
SE
for Windows 98, Windows Millennium, Windows 2000 and Windows XP

Revision 4156.721 provided by Dell

This SP Scheduler comes up in my running applications list. I noticed it when pressing alt ctrl del. Aol is running and underneath is AOL SP Scheduler, but i don't know what it is. I chose bring to front and it didn't do anything so i just close it every once awhile. It isn't doing anything to my computer, but i still want to disable it somehow.

AOL SP is AOL Spyware protection. It comes along with AOL 9.0 Optimized Beta.

Thanks Yul,
I actually had 2 online aol techs, go 'huh?' ......

Constant,
Heres some more info to help you decide if you still like it,

To open the AOL Spyware Protection program, right-click the AOL icon in your Tray (i.e. lower right corner of your screen). In the menu that displays, click AOL Spyware Protection. Or, double-click the AOL Spyware Protection icon on your desktop.
Click HELP

How to Start the AOL Spyware Protection program:
Click OPTIONS, then click SCHEDULE A SCAN. Click NEVER, then click SAVE.

TO UNINSTALL:
Click START, select SETTINGS, then click CONTROL PANEL. Double-click ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS. Click AOL Spyware Protection, click ADD/REMOVE or CHANGE/REMOVE, then click YES.

By default AOL Spyware Protection scans your computer once a week on the day it was installed on your computer. You can manually choose your scanning frequency and options by opening AOL Spyware Protection, clicking OPTIONS, then clicking SCHEDULE A SCAN.

It is vital to keep your AOL Spyware Protection software up to date. Adware/Spyware is growing at a rate faster than viruses and more are added every day. AOL Spyware Protection is automatically updated, but you can manually check for updates as well.

ASP.EXE is the process name for the AOL Spyware Protection program. AOLSP Scheduler is the process name for the AOL Spyware Protection program scheduler.

Constant,

Use 'Ad Ware 6.0' & 'Spybot' regularly, keep them updated, and you won't need to schedule the AOL SP to run, but you can use it to scan manually whenever you feel like according to those instructions in the post. In other words, it won't hurt to use it, just take it out of the scheduler,

Instead of another 'manual' scan you might add a program that protects in real time, and catches spyware before it ever downloads.

Here's a good program to try:

SpyWare Blaster

Ps...... make sure your not paying more than $14.95 / month for unlimited access, if you don't have that, call and ask for it,

An other AOLSP question.
I just got a new computer with the Vista OS. I had AOL 9.0 optimized on the old computer that had the XP OS. I like the AOL 9.0 so installed it on the new computer. It works fine except when I get out of AOL I get this error message. " AOLSP scheduler has stoped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." When I click on it, it takes me to a web site that sells virius software, where it says AOL has pardonered with McAfee. I have the McAfee software installed and enabled. My question is, with McAfee and the Virus proction built into the Vista OS, Do I really need the AOLSP scheduler? Would it do harm if I uninstalled it? Thank you Lyle

uninstalled AOLSP
For those that are interested I uninstalled the AOLSP scheduler. The computer is much faster and I don't get error messages all the time. It is a much better deal. since I have McFee I know the computer is still protected. Lyle
