Anti-virus software ratings?
What would be good advice for Windows XP and Mac OS X users for protective software? Is there something like Consumer's Report for anti-virus and I guess anti-spyware software? Even computer experts can't tell what works well and what does not, just from the ads. Does there exist a sensible source for comparative information and purchasing/downloading advice?

Please use small words, I'm a novice about this stuff.

http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/about/index.xml Is like the Antivirus Consumer Report.

NOD32 Hasent missed a virus in the wild on windows since around 98. I recommend them or kaspersky.

Get something, whether it's Avast, NOD32, Kaspersky, AVG or whatever. You can't expect to operate long without one before you'll have big trouble. It's more important to get one now than to agonize for the next two weeks over whether you're getting the best one. Just remember not to try to have two on at the same time.
