Exclamation Defender Pro 15 in 1 : BIG PROBLEM
I installed the Defender Pro 15 in 1 suite on my Toshiba M45 laptop (running xp). Now, when I try to access "My Computer", "My Documents", the Control Panel, or Explorer, the computer "dings" and ignores the command. I can access SOME programs, but nothing that will let me make any system changes that I can think of. IE and Outlook are functional. I emailed their tech support, and they responded that probably what's happening is that the anti-spyware portion of the suite has detected something and is blocking my accessing the folders mentioned because of the spyware. Their suggestion was to "install the antispyware first, remove any spyware, then proceed with installation of the popup blocker and the rest of the suite. I suppose they didn't catch the part where I said I can't access the control panel, etc. System restore won't fix it. The only thing I can think of is reformatting the HD.

Anyone have any suggestions? I'll be most appreciative.

me and my brother have had this problem before.. do you perhaps have private surf loaded on your taskbar (i think the white icon with a red 'P' in the middle is the one)? I would disable that to not start up when windows does as it is problematic, and the only reason for that is to surf the web anonymously which you don't really need to do as the firewall got a stealth mode option.

Hi jnb38363 and Welcome to TSG.

Lets see if this is malware related...

Click here to download HJTInstall.exe
  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

I would like you to generate a "Add/Remove Software list" log using the HijackThis application. Here is how you can do this:

To get an Uninstall List from HijackThis:
  • Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
  • Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
  • Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
  • Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

In your next reply, please include these log(s):

* HijackThis Uninstall List
* HijackThis log (new)
