Let's first get to the computer. I was simply wondering if there was a browser like the regular Windows Explorer, but better. I always have any folder I open in Folders view, for quick jumping. I was wondering if there was an application that made this better. It has to be free. Does it have any features like tabbed browsing in Firefox?

Now to the web. Circular history here. When I first learned of tabbed browsing, it was with Firefox, and it was great. For some reason though, Firefox didn't run too well on my old computer (five years old before 12/23/04), and I migrated to Opera. Again, things were good except for a few snags. When Opera went from my old computer to the new one, however, I found out that it couldn't print well (wouldn't print pictures if I tried to select them). I went back over to Firefox. With the print problem fixed and extensions for everything, I've been happy ever since. Firefox still has it's slowdowns, but that's because of RAM all around.
Anyway, I was wondering which of these two I should really try: Opera or Avant? I heard Opera became freeware and I know it's been improved upon. I've never tried Avant, but I've been hearing good things about it.

I'm actually asking you guys about this because I'm just experimenting. Whichever I pick, I'll probably just go back to Firefox anyway. I just want to try something different for the heck of it while I'm looking for computer browsers.

I'm with loserOlimbs on browsers - Firefox has momentum, and Opera now is free, but as we all know the browsing experience is highly individualized and is mostly about having convenient to use features that are optimized for performance and don't bloat things up.

you can use FireFox as a File manager. Just type c: in the address box.

I was looking at stuff more suited to browsing like WE does for the computer part. I just want to see if there's a better application for the job.

Lots of alternatives out there. Just search the web for File Managers. Snapfiles.com is a good place to start searching as well.

I think this one looks like what you want. It has tabbed browsing in it.

wow, squashman, i had NO idea you could use FF as a file manager! oh and thanks for the list of browsers and thanks for the list of browsers and optimizers, lotuseclat79, i cant wait to try some of them out. i tried opera for a while but it just didn't measure up to IE, but then i 'discovered' firefox...i don't know how i ever lived without it.
