Blueyonder PCguard removal?
We installed Blueyonders PCguard utility a while ago and decided that we do not like it. However on trying to remove it we get a message saying:

Internal Error
Error Number: 0x80040707

if you click OK you get:

PCguard Access denied

We've tried everything we can to get rid of it but it just will not let us.

Is there anything we can do?

Thanks

Hi,

Have you tried removing it in Safe Mode.

Press F8 when your computer starts but before it gets to the Windows screen. Choose Safe Mode from the start menu.

I just rebooted to safe mode and tried to uninstall it both through its own Uninstaller and in Add/Remove programs. When I did both I got this message:

--------------------
PC GUARD:

Error 1719. The Windows Installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in Safe Mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.
--------------------

What should I try now?

I havent had a problem uninstalling any other piece of software from the computer before now. Even this morning I uninstalled something perfectly fine... but this will not be uninstalled at all

You could reinstall it, then before you try to uninstall it again make sure you go into the settings of each program and select for it not to start up at start up, restart your system, and try to uninstall while it is not running on your system, I had a look at PC Guard when blueyonder launched it, did not like it one bit because it was a system hog, I think blueyonder started given this away to try and cut down on the amount of calls to helpdesk because of infections.

We tried that, and it wouldn't even let us reinstall it!!

I phoned Blueyonder and even they couldn't help, I have to ring back tomorrow and speak to a senior tech support person.

At worst I will reinstall windows itself to get rid of this thing!!

Hi,

Have a look through these search results.

It would seem you're not the only one having problems

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en...+Guard&spell=1

Just looking through this. If my ISP told me I needed to install their bloat ware and remove my own protection NAV & ZA Pro

Then I'd change ISP.

I would be very wary of any ISP that forced software on its customers.

Yes, I would be very wary too... Infact I would avoid it like the plague too.

But unfortunatley AVG failed when I was away for the weekend from my parents house and my Dad decided that PCGUARD would be Ok to download because it came from the ISP. So he did it without consulting me because he thought he was doing something that was Ok to do.

He doesnt know anything about computers or anything about Antivirus etc... he just thought he was protecting the PC.

Bleh.

Hopefully the tech people at Blue Yonder will be able to sort it out when they phone me back this afternoon.

If the techs cant help the only other way I know is manually uninstall it though the registry using REGEDIT,
First you need to back up the registry just in case, info below
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756

Next you will need to delete the PC GUARD folder from the programs folder on the C drive, you may have to do this in safe mode by pressing F8 at the boot sreen, to get into safe mode, info below
http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

Now restart you system, go to start, run and type REGEDIT, go to edit, then find and type PC Guard, click find next, when it finds an entrie, right click on it and select delete, now press F3 untill it does not find anymore entries of pc guard, info below
http://www.theeldergeek.com/manually...l_programs.htm

Restart and see how that is, I have used this a number of times when software refused to uninstall with add and remove programs, it has it risks as if you delete a wrong key, you will knacker your system anyway, and mite have reinstall xp (thats way you back uo the registry 1st), this may save you having to reinstall xp, but not rush into it have a good read of the links first.

some info on good AV's and security tools.
