Norton Anti-Virus 2005
For crying out loud - could someone please tell me if it is MANDATORY that the following files should be check-marked? When I click on run - msconfig - startup, these are the files:

Symantec Core LC
Symantec NetDriver Monitor
ccApp
NPF Monitor
Scriptblocking
ccSetMgr
ccEvtMgr
ALU Scheduler Service

Also, should Load Power Profile and Task Monitor be check-marked too?

This slows down my computer tremendously with all those files running in the background. Even when I boot up my computer and the desk top loads in - it takes forever for me to even click on my DSL icon to connect and then my IE browser takes forever too.

Please respond whenever your time permits.

Thanking you in advance.

Here is another way to check startup programs. This info comes from an earlier TSG Thread.

Use "A-squared" for 'startup' items info

Another option is to go to www.majorgeeks.com and look on the left side for the antispyware tools. Select antispyware tools and then the next page scroll down the page and download, install the A-squared application (alphabetical list). Run the program and after it runs, it will give you the option at the top left to analyze. Select that and a webpage opens that will give you a list of all the startup items you have as well as the explanation of what each is. You can then use the msconfig tool in windows to disable the things that are optional. Its a pretty slick tool from what I have seen. Valis, have you seen that one? It also tells you if you have spyware in your startup...doc
