Removal problems of that eternally evil program Quicktime...
I have tried everything I have found suggested, even to installing a Microsoft program, to clean QuickTime off my computer, so I can get a functional version installed.

Y'see the problem is that Firefox and IE BOTH cannot use my Quicktime plugins, no matter what I do to uninstall and re-install Quicktime. If I try to access streaming video (Quicktime based, obviously) I get a : "The plugin has performed an illegal operation. It is recommended you restart your browser." This occurs any time I access a site that uses Quicktime plugin functions. And the first, second, or rarely third time I access such a site (even if each time is a different site), my browser will lock up and I get a "Firefox has encountered and error and must close..." Which as you know means that I lose everything I was looking at, often sites I spent quite a while trying to find...

Anyone have any ideas? The last time I installed Quicktime (today: 3/10/07), it seemed to go well. Certainly better than previously, but I still get the same errors in my browsers...

All suggestions will be considered, and any successful technique suggester will be profusely thanked...

Thanks for the assist!

I think I would uninstall the browser and QuickTime, clean the registry, and then reinstall all.
Might work, assuming you have not done so already. Beware what you delete from the registry.

good luck

Quicktime Alternative
If you would like to FOREVER rid yourself of the "take charge of your whole computer and world" Quicktime, go here and download "Quicktime Alternative."

From the webpage: "QuickTime Alternative will allow you to play QuickTime files without having to install the official QuickTime Player. All QuickTime formats (.mov, .qt, .3gp) are supported, including streaming content and QuickTime content that is embedded in webpages. Some advantages compared to QuickTime player: quick and easy install; it's easy to make an unattended installation; no background processes; use a player of your own choice; low on resources."

I've used it for several years without problems.

I have read about Quicktimealt before but I also saw that is was registered to Apple. If that is that true, then what is the connection?

Quicktime Alternative registered to Apple would be like Microsoft publishing Firefox! It does, however, use codecs taken from QuickTime 7.

Where did you see that it was registered to Apple?

I know, I know, but I "thought" I saw that in one of the windows when I downloaded the alternate or while installing it and thought it strange to see it. I hope I stand to be corrected!!
