XP, Wordpad- text changes when pasted into wordpad
Hello...

Windows XP Home
Media Center Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 2
NIS 2007

Hello again

We recently noticed that when we paste into wordpad, the font now automatically changes to New Times Roman. Example: We are pasting from "file A" into Wordpad; file A is written in comic sans, bold, blue. When it's pasted into Wordpad, it changes to New Times Roman bold.

It wasn't like this until early March 2007.

We tried the Edit>> Paste Special>>RTF and it's the same result as above. If we choose the Unformatted Text, it pastes as font Arial.

Also, our system restore doesn't work, unless we do a restore in Safe Mode (then it works). We tried to restore the pc back to March, but that didn't fix the Wordpad issue.

Can anyone please help us to get wordpad working back the way it used to? (being able to copy/paste fonts correctly from the original source).

Thank you!

Hiya and welcome

First off, as restore doesn't seem to be working properly, lets have a look at a log:

Hiya and welcome

Lets first of all see if anything is conflicting with it in any way:

Download 'Hijack This!
Extract the files to the Program Files as suggested, or Browse to a newly created folder. Don't run straight from the desktop, as the Backup files will be stored there.

Navigate to the extracted files, and doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show other issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.

Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

Regards

eddie

Eddie asked me to take a look at your log. I don't see anything malicious. If this can't be resolved, we can dig deeper for things that don't always show in a HijackThis log.

Good morning, Cookiegal,

Thank you, too, for your quick response! Much appreciated.

We will wait patiently and keep our fingers crossed

A few minutes ago, we tried to copy/paste text into email (both Outlook Express and Hotmail) and the font changes from the original font to Arial, too. We don't know if that info helps, but hopefully it will.

Thanks again!!

Does this happen in Word (if you have it)? Also, have you installed any new fonts lately?

Is the Hotmail that you use, the one on the website, or via Outlook?

Hi there, Eddie!

Thanks again!

Unfortunately, we don't have Microsoft Word

Re: Hotmail... we go through the MSN website, not through Outlook.

Re: fonts recently installed. Gads ... I really don't remember. Is there a way to check?

I know we have a font file for one (a sign language manual alphabet font), but we haven't put it in the font folder yet.

Sorry not much info... we're trying

Awww thanks Cookiegal

We just tried an experiment...

We can paste from Wordpad, etc (and other word doc proggies), in comic sans, for example, to a Wordpad file, etc. and it will retain the font, etc. in the 1st wordpad doc and copy it to other document programs fine.

But still... when trying the other way (of this inquiry)... it doesn't work the way it used to. (like from net to doc)... certain fonts seem to be okay, others switch.

Hope that tidbit of info might help

Cheers!!!!

Ah, its when you're copying from the web to Wordpad. Lets see if emptying the temp files will help.

Go to Control Panel | Internet Options | General tab. Under Delete files, delete the offline content.

Then, Security tab, scroll down to Security, and tick the entry for Empty Tempory Internet Files... Apply and OK.

If still no joy, I'll have another look (at work, so sneaking on)

Bit late replying, but I'm at work, so sneaking on when I can

Is this just when copying from the internet web pages/email?

Lets see what the Font setup online is:

Howdy there, Eddie!

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply Very much appreciated.

We went to think link you sent... our font setup is pretty much like shown at the site. The only difference is that under Plain text font, ours has 3 options: Bitstream Vera Sans Mono, Courier (the highlighted one) and Lucida Console.

Re: Is this just when copying from the internet web pages/email?

We gave that a shot and that seems to be the case, so far.

(edited this stuff out... we thought we had a small revelation, but oopied :s)

Cheers!! <--- that's gotta be the cheekiest smile! Tis great!

Okay, they all copy/paste fine into Wordpad. I assume that if you copy/paste those font names above, it won't work for you

Will dig deeper.
