Acronis True Image - Boot Delay?
I finally decided to try Acronis True Image. Now it takes longer for my system to boot after reaching the desktop. The desktop and taskbar display, but I can't open applications or browse My Computer for a significantly longer amount of time than before installing Acronis True Image.

To troubleshoot, I uninstalled Acronis, and the problem disappeared. Then I reinstalled it, and the problem reappeared. I now have the processes TrueImageMonitor and TimounterMonitor disabled at startup, and that's cleared up the problem too.

Many people have recommended this app (even I did since I trusted those who did), but I'm a little concerned about this new problem.

There are new services to start and that will delay startup.

But, if you don't schedule backups, you might do as I do on some machines and create the bootable Acronis CD. You can then uninstall Acronis and use the CD for backups and restorations.

I know adding new services will cause a longer boot time, but this is seriously significant. The desktop essentially locks up for about 30 seconds while loading. I can't open anything or click on anything. Nothing else I have installed does this to my system.

That's not normal. I have TI installed on my systems here, and I don't see those effects on any of them.

I doubt it has anything to do with me having a regular cable Internet connection versus a T1- connection. There's no network activity during the lag. There's also no hard drive activity.

TI, aka True Image. I don't have a T1 connection either.

This is what I get for speed reading.

It was probably my "speed writing" with acronyms that was part of the issue.

I installed "TI" many months ago and did not experience any change in functioning of my system. I use the program regularly.

I booted from the CD to create a backup, and apparently the boot disk version doesn't keep partition drive letters. It labeled them starting with the first available driver letter. I have them customized. I wonder what would happen if I restored an image.

If you don't schedule .. You can turn off all Acronis TI Startups in msconfig.
In Services .. leave Acronis on.
This doesn't slow me down.

I have booted from the CD many times and made an image that I later restored. It works just fine.
