NEF locks Vista I have been using Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 to edit photographs under Vista Home Premium for a year or so with great success.
Suddenly yesterday a problem arose. I transferred some .NEF (Nikon camera raw format) to my hard disk, like I always do, then fired up PSE to edit them. As soon as I selected the folder into which the files had been copied, Windows reported that Photoshop Elements "has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available"
I did everything I know how to do, with the following results:
1) Vista will not open the directory, not even in Explorer, without the same message appearing (Explorer has stopped working....).
2) The command prompt (C:\) sees the files fine. They can be copied in this manner, deleted, etc. No problem. But any attempt to open a folder containing even one .NEF file, even .NEF files which have bee on the hard disk for months and have been opened repeatedly, edited, updated, saved again, etc., etc., produces the same result.
3) The Adobe Photo Downloader can see the files (show thumbnails, etc.) in the camera and copy them into any directory. However, copying any one of them into an existing or newly created folder renders that folder Verboten, and attempts to see into it with Explorer or PSE will produce the error message noted above.
Any Clues?
