Win XP: scrolling problems
I just re-installed Windows XP on an old computer, and have been having issues with scrolling. It’s difficult to describe the problem – when scrolling up or down in any program the screen sort of...wibbles? Blinks? It’s as though the screen can’t keep up with the scrolling. I thought it must be a driver issue, but the device manager doesn’t indicate any problems. I didn’t have this problem before re-installing, and there are no other issues with the computer at all. Any ideas?

Did you also install the latest video drivers for the video? That sort of problem won't show up in the device manager because the defaults work but they aren't optimized for performance (smooth scrolling) at all.

The computer in multitask mode can also do that as the compter just runs out of time to make all the changes going on the screen to display it in real time and you get some shear or screen rip when scrolling.

If all you're running is the one program and all scans and indexing and other background tasks are idle then video drivers are the first suspect in my mind.
