Unhappy Question about computer storage space
My Local Disk C: has a total size of 62.1 GB and 36.9 GB of free space. Say I have a whole lot of dvd's, both movies and tv show seasons. Can I safely put those on my computer without using up too much space?

Hi, Probably not.....

Movies or videos take up tons of space, so I would proceed very carefully.

See this page, : http://www.familyvideos.co.uk/Storin...rComputer.html

this section
Storing Your Files on the PC

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...n_burndvd.mspx

Though the above info is about burning your home video to DVD, it goes into the size of files....that should explain the enormous amount of hard disk storage you would need for "whole lots" of movies.

Sounds like you would be a good candidate for a large capacity external drive, say around 500 Gigabytes

What external drive would you recommend I get? I think 250gb should be enough... For Windows XP Home edition what is the cheapest good external drive?

Something easy to hook up and not too big!

If you want to store movies I would go 500 Gb, they aren't that much money these days anyway.

Okay, Ill give in. But just to clarify... When I buy this, I just plug it in to the comp and wall and then I can store music, movies, TV show episodes, and photos on it? And all that media can still be on my iTunes even though it isnt on my regular hard drive?

And could I back up two separate computers as long as they use the same operating system? I would back up files on my laptop, and then plug it into my desktop use the hard drive for extra storage on my desktop.
