Can't access commercial DVD
Running: xp pro sp3, 3ghz, 1 gb ram, plenty of HDD space, 2 dvd drives RW, NERO 7, all updates
Uninstalled Virtual CD (v7) and my two dvd drives will no longer access commercial DVDs, but all CDs and "homemade DVDs work fine. Uninstalled all burning s/w and reinstalled NERO. Can't reinstall VCD as the trial expired. Upper and lower limit deleted in registry. The VCD company can't give mne a solution. I have reinstalled both drives and the IDE cannels - to no avail.
The mesage is "Please insert a disk in drive Q:". Trying to access the drive from the DOS promt gives: "Device is not ready"
The error is also present under Ubuntu (can't mount).
I sincerely need help and thank you in advance
Ole

Well friend i have two suggestions you can try. First is pretty easy : you can try checking the dvd region of the drive and use DVD genie to reset it.
Second is a little out but u may wanna try.
Seems like you can use a firmware flash for the dvd drive(yes they have firmware too)
How do i know this?
cos i have Intel application accelerator screw up my cd drive once upon a time and nothing worked till i flashed the firmware on sudden enlightenment(after i had purchased a dvd combo) and the cd drive still works

Thank you for taking time to help.
I did as you instructed and everything went just fine, but I still can't access commercial DVDs.
