rtf files won't open correctly
A friend of mine gave me some documents on a floppy disk that she saved on her Mac using the rtf format. I have tried to open these files with Word 2000 on my PC. When I open the files I can make out a few words and the rest is gibberish. Also, when I looked at the properties of the files under file type it just says file. I can't open them at all with Adobe reader. Any thoughts?

Try opening the file with Wordpad. If you get the same thing its probably not a true .rtf file, or there's some odd compatibility issue with the exact programs and versions involved. Its difficult to tell for sure unless you test more similar file exchanges but if you have several already and they all behave the same way....

The workaround might be if you don't need to edit those documents, your friend could export them to .pdf and then Adobe reader should work.
