Disk Defragmenter Program
I have been trying to defragment my computer (I'm using Vista). However, the program Disk Defragmenter, which is typically found under Accessories > System Tools, is not there. Is there anyway to download or recover this program?

As an alternative method of running Defrag, go to Computer -> right click on any hard drive and select Properties. Then go to Tools and you should have the Defrag option there.

If that gives you an error then try this: http://www.winhelponline.com/article...ows-Vista.html

You can also create a new shortcut if you want too. Couple ways of doing it, one is to go to C:\Windows\System32 through Computer and find the Defrag.exe executable, right click on and select Send To and then Desktop(Create Shortcut). Once the shortcut is on the Desktop you can drag into the Start Menu and then to the Accessories -> System Tools folder.

I tried that before and it directs me to the program Diskeeper. Whenever I try a defragmentation through this program, it doesn't work. So I was wondering if there was a way to get the original defragmenter program back?

Then the first thing would be to uninstall Diskkeeper using Programs and Features in the Control Panel.

Alright, then what about after that?

Then you should be able to run Windows Defragger the normal way. BTW sounds like Diskeeper is installed, have you tried finding that in Programs and running it as it does a much better job than Windows Defragmenter.

Yes, I did mention that I had Diskeeper. But the problem is that Diskeeper is not running. I would much rather have the original Windows Defragmenter.

But if I uninstall Diskeeper, will the original Windows defragmenter appear? Because I can't find it anywhere at the moment.

That's correct Windows Defrag will come back...but Diskkeper makes the Windows Defragger and they do a much better job for themselves frankly.

Did you look in the C:\Windows\System32\ folder for the Defrag.exe file?

i would use a seperate program from diskeeper and the windows defrag. i use a free program called iobit smartdefrag. it allows you not only to defrag, but also to optimize and schedule them.
