Uninstalling Explorer 7 beta 2
Hello Hope someone can help. I am trying to uninstall Internet Explorer 7 beta 2 and install Explorer 8 beta 1. I downloaded and uninstall utility from Microsoft called uninstall Explorer 7. I run the uninstaller and get to the end and get the following error message "Windows Internet Explorer 7 beta 2 cannot be unistalled from this user account. Please log on to the same user account from which it was installed and try again." I installed from this same user account. I do not have any other user account. I proceeded to install Internet Explorer 8 beta 1 and it installed and asked to reboot to finish the install which did but I do not know where it installed to to open it. I can see it in the uninstall software in the control panel but there is no alias from which to open. I did a search for it and nothing shows up. Thanks in advance. Xandr

Do you have SP3 installed? I understand that a person will be unable to uninstall IE 7 if it is installed before SP3, unless it is uninstalled , then SP3, the reinstalled.

Hi No I am running SP2, I have read that if your computer is running fine with SP2 there is no need to upgrade to SP3. I have done so because of all the confusion about it practicality. Can you advise me further about SP3? Thanks

As to SP3....There has been a lot of 'talk' about it. When I d/l it I did the tech edition and burned it to cd. I have a friend in AZ that did have trouble with the regular d/l, her computer went into a constant rebooting loop. I sent her a copy of the cd and after she did a restore install of XP she put in my copy of SP3, no problem...It is my understanding that SP3 will replace a lot of the updates that have been d/l installed on a system.

When you are looking for IE 7, do you have the little box at the top of the add/remove window checked to show updates? It shows w/o the check mark near the bottom of the list. Personally, I stay away from the beta programs...would rather someone else take the chance of getting 'bugged' until a few weeks after the final release.

You might contact MS support with the problem (their IM service works pretty well) and see what they have to say.
