Solved: Cant Install Avg!!!!
Hello PPL

I need some urgent help. When trying to install the new AVG, I get an error message - Installation failed: Action failed for file avgwdsvc.exe.

I think it has something to do with the fact that I had previous version of AVG.

Please help! Any info is much appreciated.

What version of Windows are you running? Have you tried uninstalling AVG 7 yet?

Peace...

Hi

Thanks for the reply

I'm on Vista Ultimate and I had AVG Anti Virus and AVG Spyware as seperate programs. It asked me on the interface to update on the new one but when I did it brought up the error message.

Hope this helps.

Ok, try uninstalling BOTH AVG anti-virus and anti-spyware, reboot, then see if AVG 8 can install.

Peace...

If you had avg 7.5, before you tried to install avg 8, you need to uninstall 7.5 first in safe mode also telling it to remove all your avg settings, and items in quarantine before trying to install 8.

Hold off on the system restore for now. Let's go back to step #1.

In your first post, you said you got the "Installation failed" message. Was there an error code that also appeared with that message? If so, please post it here. Of course, you will need to attempt to install again.

Also, from where did you download AVG 8?

Peace...

That does help.

With THAT info, I found this. I'll see if I can find anything else.

EDIT: I also found this. Did you ever have any McAfee products installed?

Peace...

Hi

Sorry for the delayed response, i've been away for a few weeks.

I've had no McAfee products installed or any other antivirus or internet security and the other article didn't help me at all.

Please help!!!

Did you buy your computer with Vista pre-installed or did you upgrade to Vista yourself?

What happened when you checked to see if the Windows installer service was running? Was it set to run automatically?

Could you run the McAfee removal tool anyway and see that makes a difference? You can download it here.

Peace...
