Solved: DirectX upgrade
Hi, everybody. I use Windows XP Pro SP2 with DX9.0c and I have an GTX280 running on it. With this setup, i obtain the max performance of the videoboard or I have to install Windows Vista with DX10.1 to have it? Thanks.

I'm not understanding your question. The software, or applications, should dictate your need for Vista/DX10. That video card will support DX10. If you use an application that requires DX10, I would consider upgrading to Vista. Otherwise I would stick with XP. The short answer is if all your drivers and settings are set, you're getting the 'max' performance from the video card.

But again, I don't fully understand your question.

You can only run DX9 in Windows XP, if you wanted DirectX 10 then you'd need to install Vista. But the visual differences aren't that great and the game would need to support DirectX 10 to get any benefit which for soem games like Crysis you get lower performance in DX10 mode then in DX9 mode. Also many games run a little slower on Vista then on XP, not much but maybe a few frames per second.

FYI, the GX280 only supports DirectX 10 not 10.1, NVidia has chosen not to include DX10.1 support even though ATI/AMD and Microsoft have implemented it.

My doubt was if I had to change to Vista (DX10) to have the maximum performance of the vga. Seems that not. Thanks a lot.
