Question Remotely Defragging
Does anybody know if there is a utility or a way to remotely defrag a computer. Not to access a computer remotely and then select a defragging utility, but to have the utility running on my machine and defragging another machine?

Not that i know of, if you want however, install the program on the other computer and then set up the program to run on a schedule.

at my company we want to find an easier way to defrag clients machines w/o having to kick them off or have the defrag client slowing them down while they work.

Why doesnt your business look into a solution like diskeeper. It uses minimal recources and has a smart option that it automatically manages the drive.

The degree of interference with their machines will be the same whether the defragger runs remotely or locally. It is the drive activity that slows things down, not the program per se.

Use psexec/ to defrag a whole domain for free, using their own defraggers.

ive been looking into psexec, the only problem with that is you can't exclude anything, so the servers will get defragged along w/ the machines, and that will slow things down way too much

I use jkdefrag and have the Windows scheduler run it while I am not working. That way I keep it neat and don't have to worry about slowing the PC as far as I am concerned.
And, it is free and heavily customizable, should you choose to do so (I don't).

If your on windows and have your settings on auto you do not need to defrag a lot the recommendation is any ware between 6 and 12 months.
