DVD Burning Not Functioning.
Hi,

I have purchased a new cpu unit and it includes an LG GSA-H55L DVD-RW. Lately I can't do a successful burn or rather. It won't burn at all. I have used 3 applications for writing. (NERO, POWERIso, MagicISO) but to no avail. What I noticed is that, it doesn't have any problem when reading from discs.. I even sent it back to the shop where I bought the unit and said that it's OK. I suspected it might be my OS. So late this morning I reformatted my pc. But the problems still the same. It just stopped at 3% and nothing happen. Though the disc is not written and still usable.

Any help would be appreciated.

Here's my unit specification for reference:

WINDOWS XP SP2
2GB DDR2 Memory
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+
NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT Super 512MB

Thanks

I have tried one dvd. I added a data (6mb data) and write the data using NERO. It burned but very very slow. I finished the burning in almost an hour (47 mins to be exact). Funny thing is when I checked the disc, there's an indication/mark of data being written but when i slid the disc back to check in my pc. There's no data inside the disc. and the autoplay box indicates that the disc inserted is blank and what do i want to do etc..

Does anyone experience this kind of problem?

Thanks

im going to go out on a limb and take a wild guess here. are u sure that it can burn cds? in other words it might just be capable of reading but not writing(burning). i have a laptop with just a dvd drive (d) it has no burner. it can only read. so check and make sure this is the case. if so u will have to either get an internal cd/dvd drive which can read and write or get an external cd/dvd drive.and if it turns out that my hunch is right i cant imagine a shop not knowing the capabilities of what kind of a drive u have and saying its ok. well it might be ok for reading and its functioning ok but if it cant burn well then its not meeting your needs now is it? hope this helps u.

Hmmm... It was indeed a DVD-RW hehehe.... oh well good news is i found the culprit. It's the Book-Type to use. It should be in DVD-ROM. I have successfully burned a disc successfully. Thanks guys for the help and ideas.

For more information about Book-Type you can read it from here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book_type

I never booktype/bitset (it's a +R thing) and have no problems with any blanks. Actually my Pioneer 115D can't do it anyway (for DVD-5 SL blanks)..
