#19 | As long as you're running Windows XP SP1 with only 112 MB of RAM, it's going to run like a snail, no matter what you do to tweak it for better performance.
When you go to www.crucial.com, select "HP" for the brand and "Pavilion" for the model, then select whatever model number it is - which you haven't advised us yet. If you had, one of us could've given you the information that you need.

Are you on a high-speed connection or a dial-up connection?

#24 | It's just that my computer is really slow, takes forever to starp-up and shut down, and the internet and games lag. Hewlett-Packard
Pavilion
AMD Athlon(tm)XP 1800+
1.53GHz
112 MB of RAM Oh, I'm using a dial-up connection at a speed of 50.6Kbps
Your above comments says it all.
Your computer is slow because it has too little RAM.
Your internet is slow and games are lagging because your computer is on dial-up and has too little RAM.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The front of the case of a HP Pavilion usually has 4 to 5 characters embossed on the front of the case that says what the model number is.
If you can't find it there, look for a sticker on the back of the case.
RAM modules for your desktop are cheap. Spending $50 - $60 to add more RAM and boost overall performance is well worth the money.

#26 | Could use black viper which may pep things up a bit, did that to an old compaq armada and was able to really clean up the system boot. http://www.blackviper.com/
Also, you could compress the registry which might help ram usage, NOTE: DO NOT USE A CLEANER!!!! IT WILL ONLY DAMAGE IT!!!!!! Only compress. Best when used in safemode and auslogics makes a free one: www.auslogics.com/en/software/registry-defrag . As for internet, your not goin far without a faster connection for online gaming.

#29 | 1) Delete any unused or unnecessary programs and files. These may be taking up space, memory and resources, thus slowing your computer. Also delete your cashe/ temp files, empty your recycle bin, clear your internet browsing history, etc.
2) Check your memory, how much do you have left? If its less than 15% get some more
3) Defrag your hard drive. Fragmentation severely degrades the speed, performance and reliability of your computer. Try Diskeeper 2008, you can download 30-day trial-ware at www.diskeeper.com
4) Registry cleaner: Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, uninstalls etc. so this needs to be cleaned. This will optimize and remove redundant or unwanted items.
