Sometimes it is wrong
You might come across a red site that has been flagged bad by mistake or vice versa
click on the mcafee site button and read the reports

I was using Mcafee site adviser for quite a few years and as mentioned in the previous post,at times can be wrong. Then Mcafee wanted to upgrade it and it was a pain.Uninstalling Mcafee's site adviser was very difficult as it left it's fingerprints all over the registry. Now i use WOT(www.mywot.com) as a browser add-on to assess a site's safety and is a definite improvement.Just check it out!
with warm regards,
sreedhav

oh sorry i thought you meant install, i haven't tried, the site falsely marked can be checked buy clicking the little button at the bottom and checking what users of the site have to say, its wrong sometimes the other way around too, some green sites can be full of rubbish, there's been a few times where i looked at a green site and the "install active X content to view" came up (known virus Smitfraud C variant if im not mistaken) Still... just type something in like "free .flv to .avi converter" into google and see how many "red" sites come up... how are the average people meant to tell that the legitimate looking site is really a bad site? I think its great personally, doesn't seem to slow much down (well not noticeably for me anyway) still... thumbs up from me...

There are several flavors of McAfee SiteAdvisor. When you install the McAfee Security Suite you get the security center, anti-virus, firewall and a bunch of other optional modules, one of them being SiteAdvisor. Installing it this way does leave "it's fingerprints all over the registry" and uninstalling it can be a problem because the whole McAfee Security Suite can be hard to uninstall.

A better way to do it is to go to the site provided by joe2cool, http://www.siteadvisor.com/, it will sense your browser and you can download the appropriate plug-in/add-on. It uses less system resources as a browser plug-in.

As Sup2A mentioned who's to decide which site is safe or not?If you notice,Mcafee site adviser marks quite a few websites in grey!I haven't come across anybody other than Mcafee who are into internet security offering similar freebees.I wonder why?Philanthropy?

The grey sites are one they havnt reviewed yet, there are a few, and more often than not they are either new or un-noticed sites, some South Australian government sites arent reviewed yet, that's a small downer, but its quite obvious which are the bad sites from those that havnt been reviewed yet, i was watching a news show last night saying that there is something like 3 new porn sites up per day! its surely hard to keep up with all that rubbish, of course if you want to keep your system clean, dont browse for porn... simple...

I agree,There's no beating safe surfing!"My" experience with Mcafee site adviser and wot tells me that you may use them to steer away from crash sites, but don't overly depend on them for guidance.Period!

sreedhav
