I've been reading many posts about Adaware and the various problems that people seem to be having with the program. To be honest, I hesitate to download it just in case I get myself into something that I know little about.
I have two concerns:
1...Are spywares really that harmful to my PC that they need
to be removed?
2...Are there any instructions etc., that I can read over, so that
I'm more confident with the operation of the program before
I download it?

There are a couple of reasons to use Adaware.

1. Is just the fact that some of the stuff can grab information about you from the computer and send it off to a website. Now the majority of this may just have to do with stuff like the type of websites you frequent or the type of stuff that you buy online. It also has the potential to gather even more info from the system.

2. The second reason, some of this stuff is written poorly and can cause problems with internet access and in some cases with other uses of the computer. Others don't play well with other spyware causing conflicts. Not to mention that each one of these programs runs at startup and take up another slice of your system resources. I have seen as much as 20 megs of available memory taken up by spyware, not to mention that it frees up more processor time.



They have a faq on thier website, the program itself also comes with a faq and they have a forum that you can ask questions in.

The program also offers to backup the changes before it actually makes them, so that you can always restore them if it goes wrong, although I have never had it go wrong.

Thanks...I went ahead with the Adaware. So far it seems to have done its job...I think.... I still have a few questions...
1...What is to be done with the web3000 files? and how?
2...It was suggested that I save the log to a disk (A...how do I do that?
3...I thought that I did a backup...but where is it??? When I
hit the 'Backups' button in the titlescreen, there was nothing
there!
4...How do I know what is safe to remove???

Adaware is a good program to have, I run it weekly and from time to time it finds one or two files that I let it back up and remove.

Everything is running satisfactorily...Is there a list that I can use to help me decide what's safe to remove from Adaware?

Everything is, generally: Ad-Aware recognizes only files and reg keys belonging to the spyware programs in its database.

In order to prevent the odd false positive to create a problem, hit 'backup' after checking all found spyware instances, and before you let Ad-Aware delete them.
