Solved: MSCONFIG messed my computer up!
Hey so I was in "MSCONFIG" to uncheck the "Load Startup Items" under the "Selective Startup" and I clicked OK and reastarted. When I logged back on it was set at windows classic and there was no internet connection left! I checked all my wires and what not there was no problem. I went back to "MSCONFIG" and I checked the box to see if it would go back but unfortunately it did not. I ran a "System Restore but there were no previous dates. Does anyone have a clue?

is this Win98, XP or vista
Can you goto the startup tab and tick the items you require to be back on and loaded ?
Is there an enable all button in the startup tab ?

There is also a services tab with a list in msconfig in XP.
If you unchecked any there, it would be wise to re-check them also.

If all you did was select Selective Startup and unchecked Load Startup Items, all you should need to do is select Normal Startup from the General tab. That should re-enable everything that was disabled by Msconfig.

However, if Microsoft Services are hidden, it will show Normal Startup even with some disabled, so try this:
Go to the Services tab, make sure Hide Microsoft Services is unchecked, then click Enable All
Reboot, and see if you are back to normal.

Selecting Normal Startup is the same as doing the following:
  • Go to the SYSTEM.INI tab and click Enable All
  • Go to the WIN.INI tab and click Enable All
  • Go to the BOOT.INI tab and uncheck everything under Boot Options
  • Go to the Services tab and click Enable All
If Hide Microsoft Services is checked, they will not be affected
  • Go to the Startup tab and click Enable All

HTH

if the post above does not help

then
DHCP Client
net Logon
Network connections
workstations
server TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper
Windows Management Instrumentation

should not be shown as disabled ....
they should be started
Quote:
I have also checked the devmgmt.msc and it is a blank page please respond ASAP
completely blank

what happens if you go
start
control panel
system
hardware tab
device manager
still blank
