I thought sure that would work, but no luck. I did check a few entries and verified they made it back into the registry.
I also went back to an original XP tulips.bmp as my centered background. It's as before; comes up fine as expected, refreshes the screen with the blue background, adds in the desktop icons and then back to the screwed up final background. The only difference now is that the tulips are on the lower right of my background. It does not matter if I specifiy center or stretch.

OK, then the next thing to try is a system restore to a date prior to running the program. Hopefully Regseeker didn't break system restore.
