Solved: Help! RegCure Killed My Computer
My husband's computer was running slow so he did an evaluation of registry fix programs on line and downloaded RegCure. After it fixed the 1,500 problems it found and he rebooted, his computer was dead. The desktop will come up (eventually) but he can't get anywhere from there. After a long wait he managed to get into system restore from the start menu but that didn't fix the problem. He has not been able to uninstall RegCure (it's not on the desktop any more because the system restore was before that) but he can't get the control panel to come up to see if it's still installed there. He's getting sequential messages popping up on his desktop saying end program. Anyone have any help you can give us on how to get his computer back? Thanks a million! Old Yeller's Hubby

That is why we dont reccomend registry cleaners here at tsg . But you may need to do a repair install of windows xp. Follow this guide, http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm . Furthermore, i would get a refund from regcure, just search the forums around here and you will see the trouble that program causes on pcs.

Welcome to TSG, Old Yeller.

A search of the site will bring up dozens of similar issues. A lot people here stay away from registry cleaners because of problems that can arise.

If you have tried a system restore and are still having issues then I would backup all your personal files onto a cd or external drive and try repairing windows.

Method 2 in the following link might be your best option (presuming that you have the XP cd).

Think your post is ahead by a minute

Don't know if RegCure has a backup feature (most do, but it may not work once things have been "fixed" too much), but did you try to use RegCure to undo the changes after it finally booted?
At this point you would have to undo the System Restore to get RegCure to re-appear.

If you do do the repair install, be sure you uninstall IE7 first if you have it installed.

Good Luck

Jerry

Thank you, one and all!!! After much sweating I was able to get to the system restore and have managed to get back to a stable system. Also a special thanks to my wife who was tired of hearing me wimpering over here and made the original post to you guys. Slow beats dead every time.
