Solved: Registry Fixers et al
We recently had a problem with my father-in-laws Mozilla/Thunderbird mail client disappearing. He downloaded new versions of Mozilla and Thunderbird but an install said that a .dll file was missing or corrupted. (MozApi32.dll I think).

That got us thinking about Registry repair programs. I have RegCure on my computer (Windows XP) which I have run regularly to clean up registry, ActiveX, shared dll's etc.

We dowloaded a couple of others: RegTool, ErrorFix etc.
They come up with 'thousands' of baD things on both our systems and of course won't 'fix' them all until you register.. that's ok with me if I have to pay for it BUT which ones are good (legit). Can't afford to pay for all just to test (other than the free scan).

Could anyone advise on which Registry/computer scanning tool is best? Would much appreciate it.
Thanks, Ken J.

Never use any of them. They are scams, do nothing but slow down the machine, and remove functionality that you may not miss until later when you need to install new hardeware or repair the system.

The "errors" they find are not errors at all, and over 90% of the "fixes" they make are incorrect, but the programs then see those new errors as "correct".

They are based on a false assumption about how the registry is accessed, and the also false idea that all registry entries should follow patterns and any that don't must be "errors"..

Thanks for the heads-up. I actually haven't had anything bad happen while using RegCure but who knows? I think I'll just stick to CCleaner for now. I see lots of negatives from others too! Thanks again. KJ

Skip the regcleaner part of Ccleaner, too.
