Exclamation Unable to Connect (nearly everything)
As you can see, my internet connection works very well, but when I try to connect using the programs World of Warcraft, Skype, Windows Live Writer, Windows Live Messenger, Ventrilo, and the Blizzard installer; but AIM and the internet work fine.

I'm working with a brand new dell XPS, although the norton security has been buggy with it. I think I have it completely uninstalled now, and the problem persists.

All of them say things like proxy and firewall, but I have my router set to the most enabling and loosey-goosey security settings it will go, and I have gone in to the Windows Firewall to allow each program seperately.

---

Also, when I ran the blizzard installer in safe mode, I was able to connect and install World of Warcraft.

---

Edit: things I forgot to mention.

Facebook won't let me record a video for a wall post.

Hi brian,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

The problems you are having could be related to an infection or a configuration issue with the Norton Firewall component of Norton Internet Security.

What version of Norton Internet Security were you using? Also, when you removed Norton Internet Security, did you use the Norton Removal Tool?

The first thing I would advise you to do is to use the free Norton Online Security Scan to check for infections. Click on the link below and follow the instructions to run both tests.

Norton Security Scan

Please let me know if any infections were found and also what version of Norton Internet Security you were using. If you were using a pre - 2009 version, and have a valid subscription, you are entitled to a free update to Norton Internet Security 2009, which I highly recommend. Please complete the Norton Security Scan first, let me know if any infections were found and I can then assist you further.

Thank you,
Mike

I didn't use the removal tool to uninstall it, I used the add/remove program thing, or whatever the vista uninstall thing is, but after that I got the removal tool (after I found out it existed, searching for answers on google) and let it run for a while. After about an hour, it was still loading or searching or whatever it does, so I figured the uninstall must have been effective enough.

I downloaded that scanner, and it seems to be effected by this issue as well. When I press "Start Scan," it tries 'downloading protection updates' for several minutes before finally giving an error, 'an error has been encountered and the scan cannot proceed' - suggesting a possible reason 'no protetion definitions are available to run a scan'

I'm going to run and go find the disk that came with the computer, I'm pretty sure they sent me a copy of the program.

Since I just bought the laptop, I would hope that it's the most recent form of Norton, but I'll go investigate the disk situation and report back in a few minutes.
