java red x
cant get java to work every site i need to got that requires java only shows a red x..i did the "do i have java" on thier website and it says i do.. but when i go to test it i still get the red x.. i followed the "enable java through your web browser" option but when i get to step 2 there is no java option..
then when i try option 2.."Enable Java through the "Java Plug-in Control Panel" when i get to step 4 the box marked internet explorer is grayed out and checked...i found some suggestions saying i have to run the java control panel as administartor but when i right click the icon in the control panel the only options are to "open" or "create shortcut"
i have windows vista home premium edition 32bit service pack 1
and java version 6 update 13

Assuming you are using Internet Explorer, in the Options, under the Advanced tab, is the Use JRE 1.6.0_13 for <applets> (requires restart) box checked?

It seems you still have the Java Virtual Machine installed on your computer. Microsoft had to take down their virtual machine because of some legal issues. But you don't even have to use the Microsoft VM, you can use Sun Microsystem's version, and it works just fine.

Java Runtime version 6 Update 13 can be downloaded from here.

I really don't understand why you would have Java Virtual Machine installed on Vista. It hasn't been used in years, especially not on Vista.

It's still available for download but it has officially died on December 31, 2007. You should uninstall it.

unclemango:

I received your private message and have read your thread.

Download and install Sun Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0.13 as advised. Opt out to install any extra crap that it offers.

They used to be but as I wrote, JVM has officially died on December 31, 2007. So, no updates are available anymore for it. That's why you get the dreaded red Xs.

Look if you can locate it in Add/Remove programs. If not, try the following:

How to Remove Microsoft Java Virtual Machine

I haven't found anything specific to Vista but you can try it anyway.

You may have to enable the real built-in Administrator account of Vista before running the command.

Read this procedure.
