Exclamation Bootmagic Nightmare
Does anyone know if remove or replace bootmagic from my computer when i startup? i have it on my only hard drive, (it no longer holds any form of OS or data). I try to install ubuntu from my usb but bootmagic i assume is preventing it since i always encounter an error when i try to install ubuntu. Bootmagic has been causing me trouble ever since i accidentally installed it on my computer. Does anyone know of a way i can replace remove bootmagic or replace it with something else that works? all help is appreciated.. since i havent recieved any yet... (oh and my dvd drive doesnt work so i have to everything via usb stick).

Hm, have you tried active@killdisk. That will certainly wipe the drive. http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm download the bootable disc creator and dig around in there for a usb creater and then run that application on the drive. That will blank everything out of it.

Red face maybe...
will this kill my bios? (probably not). also, the btmagic error i keep getting seems to be linked to my Master Boot Record (mbr), so it would have to probably rewrite the the mbr or delete it? Or would soomething else make the mbr when i go to install it (ubuntu or windows?). thanks for the advice by the way.

No it will not, and yes it wipes the mbr. That is where bootmagic lives anyway. And its not somthing to be concerned with as whenever an operating system is installed, it must write to that part of the hd or it will not boot simple as that. As for your bootloader question, ubuntu has LILO and or GRUB. Either of which will work fine. I would reccomend to minimize technical headaches i would add windows first, then add ubuntu later. Just be sure that when you install windows, you leave a block of unformatted drive space so that linux has a block in which it can install to. As linux is relaitvely recource efficient id say a 20 gb block will fill the bill. When you install linux after windows it will find the windows installation and configure its bootloader which can control the bootup of the system.

It should go smoothly at this point. Atcually, i beleive ubuntu can be installed within windows itself. But it should be smooth sailing now
