How old is this computer?

Have you used the wireless before?

Do you have an Anti-Virus installed thats up to date?

A good place to start is to run system restore to go back to before the problem started. This website will be a good guide on how to get to restore.

when i try a system restore it turns back on and says that it could not do a system restore, no changes were made and to pick another of the available dates. i picked several dates none did anything. does this sound like a virus or a corrupted file somewhere?

Somthin is definitely shot alright. By any chance you are NOT using a registry cleaner, right? I certainly hope not. Anyway, what happens if you reinstall the wireless drivers?

My other question goes unanswered and did you uninstall the old driver, reboot, then install new?

i did uninstall the old wireless driver first and reboot. i don't think i used a registry cleaner. I don't have one installed on my computer though so i'm pretty sure i didn't. It is possible that i did at one time and then uninstalled it so i'm no 100% positive. I know that i hadn't done anything with the registry between Friday morning when it worked fine and friday night when it didn't.

I was just checking, if you hardly know what one is, you likely didnt use one. What file is shown in the blue screen error to have become unstable?

the blue screen only stays on for a half second and then automatically turns off. is there a way to recover this info?

Yes, it is auto restarting, we can disable that.
Open my computer, then in the left pane click on view system information
In this pane click the advanced tab, then click settings under startup and recovery
Then uncheck automatic restart and click ok and ok again to close the previous window.
At this point i would advise you to replicate the crash and note the file listed where it says
"the problem seems to be caused by the following file:" This will give a clue into what driver is atcually failing.

Where did you acquire this other driver, was the one that was crashing the one that came with the pc? If you give us specifics to the model of the computer we can help you locate what the correct driver for your pc is.

the danger of self-help
i messed up my wireless connection and in the process screwed up the connection on my pc too, so i was out of commish for about a day. at this point i called a professional, which i probably should have done in the first place! Everything is working. thanks for all your help, though. I'm just too computer illiterate for self-help
