XP Error Code 39
Because of lack of room on c drive I deleted a number of programs (stupidly including the burning software that came with my SONY CD burner - planning to re-install later on a different drive). I then defragmented the c drive but upon rebooting could no longer access either the SONY drive or my Samsung DVD drive. Searching the device manager I discovered error code 39 (Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.)
Reloading the driver, upgrading the driver all failed to solve the problem, as did deleting the upper and lower filters from the registry using regedit... What else should I try??

Got below from Microsoft web site, i would just try uninstalling them (or checking to see what you uninstalled has infact totaly uninstalled then load again reboot and see what happens other than that if the disc that came with the drive does not work am at a loss as to what to suggest.

Code 39
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Cause

There are several causes of Code 39 errors:
  • A required device driver is missing.
  • A required binary file is corrupted.
  • There is a problem with the file I/O process.
  • A driver that is referencing an entry point in another binary file is unable to load.
Recommended resolution

Reinstall the drivers for this device.

Uninstall and reinstall the driver

Uninstall the driver from Device Manager, and then scan for new hardware to install the driver again.

You may be prompted to provide the path of the driver. Windows may have the driver built-in, or may still have the driver files installed from the last time that you set up the device. However, sometimes, it will open the New Hardware Wizard which may ask for the driver. If you are asked for the driver and you do not have it, you can try to download the latest driver from the hardware vendor’s Web site.
  1. On the device Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Uninstall. Follow the instructions.
  2. Restart your computer.
  3. Open Device Manager, click Action, and then click Scan for hardware changes. Follow the instructions

Question XP Error Code 39
Hi Ozziebeanie!!

Thanks for taking the time to reply!

I've failed to find either the original driver (cdrdsvsd.sys) or any update from the manufacturer (B.H.A. Ltd), so I'm afraid to uninstall... I've tried the update but it replies that it can't find anything better to replace it with. I may have the original installation CD but can't play it!!

Anyway, I think the problem is with the system not recognizing the drive, not that the driver isn't there or is corrupted...

Any more ideas?

The Pies are going all the way - just went over my head - (is that an American saying? What does it mean?).

Anyway some computers if you have uninstalled them (drivers) and reinstalled even though it says it is installing them they are infact arnt they are putting the drivers in the folder, so you have to go in their and activate them manualy, i found i had to do that with a few computers, but i dont know if that is the case with yours. but worth a try.

put your computer details in here and will look about for drivers only enough to find drivers no need for all of them, you never know i might stumble accross them
