Do you have an external hard drive ..
And have you ever heard of "Imaging" your operating system ??
http://www.techsupportalert.com/best...ng-program.htm

After a fresh install, updated and loaded ... Is a real good time to "Image" your HDD

To Noyb : Yes - I have an external drive for back up (it came with 'Norton Ghost 2003' which I couldn't understand what to do) - I have looked at the link you provided - I figure you suggest I download & use 'Macrium' for imaging and use it to make a 'start up'/'boot' disc.
I assume your post #16 about "YES - Install This program .. Run it .. and post a screen shot of the Startup Programs' to get Winpatrol 2009" was NOT for me - is that correct?

I'd format the external in NTFS .. if it's in FAT.

I've never used Macrium ... I've heard it's good here at TSG
I haven't had any problems with Ghost since I donated it to the local landfill.

I use Acronis True Image .. The free trial is fully functional for 15 days ... Better price

Yes .. that was for you .. so we can see what you have running at startup.
Too Much will slow you down .. and introduce you to a nice free utility .. much better than messing in the registry

If you're planning on a fresh install .. take your time and plan it.
Make sure you get your IE cookies & favorites ..
Your OE address book (wab), account settings and any saved Email backed up...
along with any personal Data.

Many times .. I will make an Acronis backup of a corrupted system ..
so I can go back and fetch something I missed.

The free Version of Macrium ..
Can't mount a backup "Image" as a "Virtual" HDD and read it ... You have to pay extra for this Macrium feature ..
Then the cost is about the same as Acronis ... That can do it all.

If you have any questions about these procedures ... Holler

To Noyb: Thankyou so much for your help - I will be asking a mate to explain NTSF and FAT to me - my knowledge in these matters is rapidly increasing!
All the very best (I will return to update you)
