Hi linlithgow, and welcome to TSG.

Do your old and new speakers both use the green audio line-out jack on the back of the computer? If so, you should not need to change any settings on the computer.

speakers
Thanks for your help Chuck, the old speakers were blue the new speakers are green. the reason I purchased new speakers was that the old ones did not have any sound either, this relates to a usb connected skyp phone which I no longer have and all the sound was coming through the phone.

I can't get in front of a computer running Windows XP at the moment to confirm this. You may need to go into the Windows Sound control panel and see if you have a choice of sound output devices. If so, see if your sound card is the default output device.

I am not at all familiar with how the Skype software affects sounds not related to the phone conversation.

Also, depending on how your speakers are connected, check if the "Digital Output Only" box is checked or not....

Right click on the speaker icon in the task bar, Open Volume Control, and go Advanced

(or from Control Panel >Sound and Audio Devices>
click on the Advanced button from Device volume>...then Advanced from the new window...)

Clear the box if you went with an 2 or 3 wired connection, or check the box if you hooked up via one digital cable connect...
but that depends on you Logitech speakers...if you went with the Z5500, definitely check digital output...

You might need to update your audio drivers, found here
