"low memory" error message signing on to aol ver9.1
Having used AOL ver 9.1 without problem for a number of years I have recently benn getting anew erro message when trying to sign on. "The operation could not be completed due to low memory or hard drive space". This message does not allow proper loading of the AOL content or browser etc.
I have a huge Hard drive and loads of RAM so am assuming this error is incorrect. I use W XP SP2

How do I get rid of this message/problem please?

Thank you in advance ?

You may have a "Huge" drive BUT, how much empty space is on it?

In todays world, my 300 Gig hard drive is considered a medium size.

I had the same problem and tried the fix. It didn't work for me. I also downloaded a file from AOL that is supposed to fix memory problems and I got a message saying that I don't have a memory problem. I am using AOL 9.0, My original error message said "Your computer cannot display this feature due to low memory. Please close one or more applications or free 0mb of disk space and select Retry, or press cancel to end the operation". I figured I'd "fix" this myself by upgrading to 9.1. I could then open AOL but my email and address book disappeared and I couldn't get it back. It didn't come along with the upgrade automatically. I'm so confused. Can someone help please? Thanks.

My best suggestion to anyone who uses AOL is DON"T...

AOL is well known as a resource hog and installing software into your system that may cause no end of problems. There are many, many ISP's available that do not do this sort of thing at all. It takes some relearning to use your computer after getting rid of AOL (which is no simple task in itself), but after you do, you will be a much happier computer user. You will need to re-establish all that stuff associated with e-mail (address book, e-mail address, e-mail client setup, etc.) but it will be worth it in the long term. You will also have to re-establish your browser Favorites or Bookmarks (or whatever AOL calls them nowadays).

An ISP's basic function is to provide a connection to the internet and, if you choose to use it, a home page. AOL has historically gone way beyond that fundamental purpose and thereby introduced a very complex and cumbersome program that loads up your computer.

You can get help on this forum on how to go about uninstalling AOL and the subsequent operations to get back up and running. All one need do is ask.

I still have to do the first one - I need some time. When I try the second one I get a message when I try to download the file that it's corrupt.

aol low memory message
check if you are missing compver.bin file ---- accidentally deleted? --- once restored this message goes away.

this is found in..

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AOL\C_AOL 9.0

where 9.0 is the version you are using... try copying from an older directory the compver.bin to the current version if you have more then one copy of aol installed.

also try:
