Java console problem
I am running windows XP wit firefox as my browser. I recently tried to update my Java software, and keep getting the same message - "Error 25099 unzipping core files failed" It then rolls back the installation and says"installation failed. the wizard was interupted before java 6, update 15 could be completely installed. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again.
I have tried every recommended fix given on the Sun website, but nothing is working. Also, My Java console is not working. When I try and open it, the window pops up, but it just a grey box, the actual console doesn't show. Any ideas how to fix this? Could there be a virus or trojan that norton 360 isn't picking up?
I really need Java to work!
I ran Hijackthis and this is the log file:

Download this file, save it to your hard drive, then execute it to install the latest version of Java

http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/downlo...BundleId=33889

If you still get errors, go to add remove programs list and uninstall all versions of Java you find in there, then try the downloaded file again.

I tried the uninstall, it didn't work. I also tried the uninstall in safe mode and this message came up:
"the windows installer service could not be accessed. this can occur if you are running windows in safe mode or if the windows installer is not correctly installed. Please contact your support person"

Sorry, I forgot to tell you you have to start the installer service once you are in safe mode.

Open a command prompt and type in: net start msiserver

hit enter key, close command prompt.

Now try to uninstall it.

Ok, I tried your suggestion but still got the same message. Do you think the problem lies in my windows installer and if so, how do I fix it?

sure you typed the command correctly?

net start msiserver

include spaces.

yes, I tried it again to make sure I hit "enter". The command box never actually comes up. It flashes on the screen for a fragment of a second, and goes away.

You need to Open command prompt

Start>all programs>accessories>command prompt type the command in there.

sounds like you are using the "run" box?

Ok, you were right, I was using the "run" box. However, I tried what you said and the black box came up and said prompt cannot be used in safe mode. So I'm back to square one!

I'm a retard, when you select safe mode, select "safemode with command prompt", sorry.

Now we are getting somewhere.

I'm sorry, I feel like an idiot here, but when I go into set up for safemode, there are the options I see:
/safeboot minimal network dsrepair minimal (alternateshell)
/noguiboot
/bootlog
/base video
/sos

There is no option for safemode with command prompt.

Don't use setup in windows, use F8 keystroke several times during the first part of the post screen when you restart the system.

OK, I tried your last suggestion, safe mode with command prompt and it seemed like it would work. When I typed in net start msiserver, it told me that it could not be used in safe mode. Then, to make matters worse, I couldn't get out of that screen. I tried, enter and esc, but nothing worked so I ended up having to shut the power off, unplug, and start again.
I just saw the screen print you inserted above, am I supposed to select the highlighted prompt instead of safe mode with command prompt?
