I'm using windows xp. I'm trying to watch tv on aol's free site. Most of the shows are "jerky" (not smooth playing)
. I was told that I needed the latest version of Adobe flash player. To download this I was supposed to remove the version that I had and download the newest version. The download install said that it was complete, but next to adobe flash player in the "add/delete list, no memory is listed as it for all of the other programs. The shows are still "jerky", what should I do? Thanks alot, John

There's a Adobe Flash Player for IE and one for non-IE.

The jerkiness is probably from your computer not being able to handle the system and graphic load of videos.

What's the processor type and speed?

What's the amount of RAM?

What's the description of the graphics controller/video card?

Besides Adobe Flash Player 10.0.32.18, you should also download and install Sun Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0.16.

thanks, sun java runtime is now installed. how do I find out the processor type and speed, ram, and graphics controller... I'm kind of new at this.

Right-click MY COMPUTER, then click Properties.

The processor type and speed and the amount of RAM will be listed in the General tab.

Post it here.

There lies one main problem - a measly 256 MB of RAM.

Your computer is going to run like a turtle with that amount, and it's definitely going to struggle to run video clips with that amount.

You need to increase the amount to at least 512 MB, and preferably more.

What's the brand name, model name, and model number of that computer?

My Gateway 500S(E-4000) desktop has the same on-board graphics controller and has 64 MB of video memory.

When you were looking at Adapter Information, did it show 32 MB, 64 MB, or some other amount?

So, I am still confused, When I look at the list of installed programs in the add/remove list, and I see "Adobe flash player" with no memory usage next to it, is it a problem that the increase in RAM from 256 to 1024MB will solve?

You definitely need to add more RAM. I don't care how "smoothly" your computer ran 2 days ago.

You're probably also guilty(like many users are) of having too many programs loading during startup and running in the background.

Click Start - Run, type in MSCONFIG and then click OK - Startup(tab).

How many entries have a checkmark?

Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete at the same time to open Windows Task Manager and then click Processes(tab).

How many running processes are there?
