Hi I am new to this site but was wondering if you could help.
A few days ago Firefox and IE started closing before they started up and it said it was because of dep. I eventually turned off dep completely but they still wont work, only difference is it doesn't say dep closed it. I made the mistake a few days before that of defragmenting my registry but have reversed it since then thinking it was the problem.

Thank you for the assistance, and I am using chrome to type this, installed it after they crashed.

My first thought when I read this first post was, "What the heck is dep". So I Googled it and found this in Wikipedia. I can't provide an answer to the posters question, but thought this might be helpful.

EDIT: The "Discussions" section of the Wikipedia article is also very interesting, especially regarding the accuracy of the article itself. I checked the status of DEP in my XP Home SP3 and found it default set to 'Turned on for essential Windows programs and services only". Prior to this I've never even heard of DEP.
