Windows Installer in unbreakable loop
I am running XP SP3 with all the latest patches and was running fairly well.

Then, I installed a product called advanced system optimizer by systweak. It found over 500 problems. I told the program to fix them and then my troubles began.

First of all, it shut off "Quick Launch". Fixed that. But it also seems to have gotten windows installer to try to install a program I had long ago but have since deleted. Try as I might, I cannot get it to quit restarting. Essentially, the process starts, gathers requirements, finds out it doesn't have everything and hangs with an error message. No matter when in the process I cancel it , it IMMEDIATELY restarts. This prevents me from running windows installer cleanup, because another install process is running. I feel like the wizard with the mops in Fantasia. I have even tried to go to task manager to stop the process, but it just restarts... Any idea how to make it quit?

Thanks

Try a system restore to a point just before you installed advanced system optimizer

Never mess with the registry. This type of crapware is poison for a computer!

Did the program create a backup you could get back?
