Exclamation Can't update my programs, etc.
Lately I haven't been able to update any of my programs: Windows Live Messenger, Comodo Firewall, etc. Plus when I try to access some of the internet features of my programs I can't: I can't access the iTunes store and I can't download any torrents.

I have Windows Vista 32-bit Home Edition.

Go here and click the green icon to download HijackThis 2.0.2.

Close all open windows, then install it in its default location: C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.

Run a scan with it - which will take 30 seconds or less.

Save the resulting log in Notepad.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the entire log here.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Also go here and click the green icon to download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.41.

Just download and save it for now. Don't install or do anything with it yet until we see the HijackThis log.

Sendro:

I see at least 3 antivirus programs(Alwil Avast4, COMODO Internet Security, Norton Internet Security) installed and running at the same time. Multiple antivirus programs will clash with each other and make a computer more susceptible to infection. Two of them need to go.

I also see a few other security-related programs that I've never heard of and which I question are valid or rogue programs. One of them has a "winlogin.exe" file name in the command line, and that's suspicious to me.

I also see a few suspicious entries in your log.

I've reported your thread to the "Malware Removal & HijackThis Logs" section for assistance by a yellow shield malware expert. If you don't get a reply from one within 24 hours, we'll go from there.

You admit to the use of torrent sites, so I'm pretty sure that your computer is infected.

Would it be infected if I haven't used a torrent in a few months?

We're going to find out soon enough if it's infected - that's if the programs that I'm going to have you use will successfully complete a scan with all the crap that's currently installed and running in the background.

Go here and here and click the green icon to download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.41 and SUPERAntiSpyware 4.29.0.1002.

Close all open windows, then install them. Make sure they update their definition files during the install process. Restart your computer after they're both installed.

Start Malwarebytes and run a "quick scan". When the scan is finished, select and allow it to fix EVERYTHING it finds. Restart afterwards.

Start SUPERAntiSpyware and run a "quick scan". When the scan is finished, select and allow it to fix EVERYTHING it finds. Restart afterwards.

Go into Logs(tab) in Malwarebytes and obtain a copy of the scan log.

Go into Preferences - Statistics/Logs(tab) in SUPERAntiSpyware and obtain a copy of the scan log.

Post both scan logs here.

Malwarebytes Anti-Maleware and SUPERAntiSpyware could not get the definition updates, they both had error messages.

Malwarebytes Anti-Maleware: "An error occurred. Please report the following error code to the Malwarebytes Anti-Maleware support team. Error code: 732 (0,0)

SUPERAntiSpyware: "There was an error trying to retrieve definitions. Make sure your firewall is not blocking SUPERANTISPYWARE.EXE from accessing the Internet."

I will still do what you said and restart and run scans, but I thought that I needed to tell you that they didn't update.

The current database version of Malwarebytes is 2893 and you ran it with an outdated database version 2775 and picked up 5 problems, so it's unknown how many more problems it would've picked up if it was up-to-date.

The current core and trace database versions of SUPERAntiSpyware are 4140 and 2072 and you ran it with outdated core and trace database versions 4102 and 1978 and it picked up 1 problem, so it's unknown how many more problems it would've picked up if it was up-to-date.

Adware tracking cookies aren't a big issue, big rootkits and trojans and hijackers are.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Going back to my first paragraph in post #4, you need to get rid of the multiple antivirus programs and stick with one. Personally, I would keep Alwil Avast4, but it's your choice.

Start them one at a time and then try running their update function again. Make sure your internet connection is active first.

OK, good. You got them updated and the subsequent scans came out clean.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Get rid of 2 of those 3 antivirus programs, restart afterwards, then post a new HijackThis log here.

What is X3watch used for?

Will post the Hijack log in a few minutes, X3watch is basically a program that monitors if you've gone on pornographic sites. My mom made me get it to watch me... You know how mothers are.
