 | Senior Member with 162 posts. | | | | Solved: Can't boot from Vista DVD Hey, It's me again.
I just tried to boot from my vista DVD because i will soon have to format both my hard drive partitions.
The problem is, when i start my pc with the dvd in the drive, nothing happens. The OS just starts from the hard drive as usual...
So how do i fix this... how do i boot from the dvd?

says to press a certain key to enter setup, then press that key.
You will need to find the setting for first boot device and change
it to CDROM.
Then save settings and exit.
Don't forget to set it back or remove the cd when completed.
Some computers also have an option for a quick boot menu.
Watch the screen for a message to press a key for boot menu.
Press that key, select the drive and hit enter.
Easier if you have that option.

Said press DEL to start setup or something like that...I pressed DEL. It went on the boot screen where it showed only Windows Vista option. I pressed F8. Some more options popped up... like safe mode and such. But there was NOTHING about a dvd/cd... | | Senior Member with 162 posts. | | | | Ok, I made some progress. I got into BIOS, changed the 1st boot device to CD/DVD. I saved. My pc restarted. i could now boot from DVD. First it was loading resources or something. Then the vista loading screen started. After that was finished, it threw me to a vista wallpaper-like image. I waited for about a minute hoping something would now pop up. the image was a bit out of my screen but i managed to center it by pressing monitor's auto adjust button. Nothing popped up. It stayed like that. Had to do hard reset. ESC, DEL, nothing worked :S
So... now what do i do :S | | Distinguished Member with 2,725 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2007 Location: Boise,Idaho Experience: Intermediate | | Might make sure you don't have any external hardware, like
an external hard drive or anything connected before you
boot to the disk.
Can take a little while to load setup files. | | Distinguished Member with 4,458 posts. | | Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Annapolis, MD Experience: Intermediate | | Why is the format necessary? | | Senior Member with 162 posts. | | | | Quote:

If I were getting a new board, I'd also get Windows 7. If it's not the same board, you'll have to get a new OS disk anyway. | | Senior Member with 162 posts. | | | | Thanks for trying to help who did... And who didn't. Yep.
SOLVED. I can now format | |
