Question Windows Media Center Opening Up By Itself Constantly - Can't Disable It
About seven weeks ago, I reformatted my harddrive and for weeks everything worked perfectly. Then Vista updated to SP2 and suddenly computer was no longer happy. I thought it might be a virus and posted in that forum but never got a reply and have since come to think it's a conflict somewhere and not a virus.

Windows media center keeps opening itself repeatedly. This is very distracting. I've disabled it in Services and Startup, but it won't go away!

Also, occasionally, menus will open without being accessed by me. Occasionally, the mouse jumps around and won't respond to touching the touchpad.

Any ideas, anyone?

Thanks,
SWOFKY

Haven't yet heard from anyone, but here's an update. The computer went from bad to worse, with the mouse operating by itself, programs opening or closing by themselves, the computer typing gibberish by itself, opening the start menu and typing gibberish into the 'start search' line - - and WMC opening almost constantly until the computer is practically useless - - and of course, just out of warranty.

So, out of total desperation, I nuked the drive with KillDisk (Dban wouldn't run), did a clean install of Vista yesterday - - and today, the same problems are back. All I have installed are the drivers and AVG, Ccleaner, and SuperAntiSpyware. Vista hasn't even finished updating itself yet.

Have already spent about $200.00 trying to get this fixed and just can't afford anything else and am totally stumped. Can anyone HELP!?

Just a thought.....check to see if you have a rootkit.

Rootkitrevealer is a good place to start.

Must be hardware
Thank you for your reply, Stoner. I nuked the drive with KillDisk and did a clean install of Windows 7. Before the install even finished the computer was typing by itself into the Product Key line.

Pretty sure I must have a touchpad, memory, or some other hardware problem.

Thanks for your input, though, I really appreciate the reply.
