remotely watching my woods
Don't know if this is the correct forum.
But I have an eee701 which has passed usefulness Now I have their Linux but could put xp back on.
When I am home I like to spend time watching my woods behind the house. Now that I am traveling I miss that view and wonder if I can put a web-cam connected to the eee and Internet. To view the woods remotely. I found the HP Premium Autofocus Webcam which seems about right.
I have no idea about what software etc to use.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

I do have high speed internet in the country.

You will have to use the internet, obviously, but by far and away the easiest software to use will be logmein. That allows you to remote to your other desktop, and view it as if you were sitting in front of it.

Streaming video will definitely be a bandwidth issue, so I hope you have a fast connection.

hth,

Valis:
Thank you so much for the reply.
It does seem like a wonderful solution.
But Murphy's law prevails and XP doesn't want to load.

Do you by chance know a Linux analogy of logmein? Just in case
Thanks

Check the webcam manufacturer website for support info since some webcams come with software that allows you to stream video in real time. Your only issue is going to be finding one with Linux support. You are not trying to keep an eye on your marijuana growing operation while on the road are you LOL?

Maybe that's why deer will jump in front of a moving car, they're a little too stoned.
