Using Windows XP. I am the only user on the system. When I am away for a while, I have to click on owner and wait until it loads my data. Is there any way to eliminate this?

Is this when the screen saver has kicked in?
You have not stated what OS you are running.

If this happens when the screen saver is on, then go to the settings of the screen saver and turn off the "On Resume, Display Logon screen"

If your machine is going to sleep or hibernation, then that is a different story and we need to know what your machine is doing.

Dave,
Thanks for your reply. My screen saver is set to blank. I am using Windows XP. Not sure how this situation came about. I suspect it was in one of the auto updates from Microsoft. Since I am the only user this is not needed and is just an irritation.
Thank you for any help you can provide.

Did you check the settings in the screen saver?

Right click your desktop and select "Properties".
There select the Screen Saver tab.
Make sure that there is NOT check mark in the On resume area.
Also lower in that same pane, there is the Power section. Check and make sure that the power settings are set to never in all three areas.

Also then select the "Hibernation" and and make sure there is NO check mark in the Enable Hibernation check box.

Dave,

Thank you so much. You solved the problem. I spent hours trying to get help from the microsoft site, and it was just a waste of time. Surely with the billions of dollars in cash that they have laying around they could make their help sites more user friendly. No wonder people are moving to Apple.

It was the "On resume" that was causing the problem. This site is great, and I am sure that you get a lot of satisfaction from helping so many frustrated windows users.

Again, thank you.

Image tags cannot be used to display an image directly from your computer. They have to link to a web site URL. You can however upload that image by using the attachment manager below the reply dialog box.

Love your website. Yes, Dave gave me the information to eliminate the problem, and I immediately sent him a message of thanks. It was a simple thing to do for someone as knowledgeable as Dave, but I spent hours on the microsoft website trying to find an answer. What a waste.
microsoft has billions of dollars in cash lying around, but they can't expend the effort to have a decent help site. I did not capitalize their name intentionally because I just don't respect the company. It is understandable why many people are moving to Apple computers. Until I discovered your site, I was considering switching to Apple when I am forced to get another computer.

Thank you again for your help. I don't have the knowledge level of Dave, but if I monitor your site maybe sometime I will be able to help someone too. I am on a fixed income, but in the not too distant future I will be able to donate to your site.
Please keep up the good work.

Respectfully,

Rob
