Do have to uninstall (remove) old anti-virus & internet security software First(that came with my system) before I can install newly updated anti-virus/internet security software that I purchased from the store?

or
Is it o.k. to just install the new anti-virus/ internet security software that I purchased from the store without removing outdated versions of the software?

Can someone help me? I am trying to clean my pc and prevent viruses...

Just do not go online until you have uninstalled the old AV program and are ready to install the new. Best not to install the new AV until the old is completely removed.

What is the name of the old Internet security program? Some require a special uninstall program to get it all removed. Also tell us what the new program is.

zzgraham:

You didn't mention the names of the antivirus/security programs that you're wanting to uninstall and install.

As Raybro already mentioned, some of them(such as McAfee and Symantec Norton) require removal tools to uninstall and remove their remnants properly.
