I run Windows XP Media Edition, and for the longest time have had problems (sporadic) with opening both Outlook and WMP. This problem was present when I was using outlook 2000, and remains now that I have upgraded to outlook 2007. (I have this setup on two computers, and experience the same issue on both.)
Here's what happens:
1. I try to open Outlook (or WMP) but it doesn't appear to open.
2. I hit alt/control/delete to open Windows Task manager, and then go to the Processes tab, where I find outlook (or WMP). If I have tried to open the software several times, it will appear several times.
3. I highlight the offending software, and hit "end process."
4. I attempt once again to open outlook (or wmp), and it opens successfully.
I've been doing this for so long that I don't remember how I tripped over the solution, but it is a rather cumbersome process! Does anyone know what the problem is, and how to fix it?
